Whole body counter low background WBC-K
Spectrometric
system for whole body counting WBC-K (chamber) is designed for
life-time detection of nuclide content and measurement of activity of
incorporated gamma-emitting radionuclides and Sr-90 in whole human body
as well as for measurement of radionuclides activity in individual organs of human body.
WBC-K
is used for expert examination of radiation accidents victims, persons
living in radioactive contaminated areas and staff, working with
radioactive substances.
WBC-K
can be used also for assess of gamma-emitting radionuclides activity in
large foodstuffs samples in their natural state and in big volume
environmental samples.
WBC-K
is a system of high sensitive scintillation and semiconductor
gamma-spectrometers of BDEG type placed into large protective chamber
with a movable bed for a patient under examination inside it.
WBC-K
operation is carried out under the control of analyzing and computing
system providing control of spectrometric tracts, measurement
performance, processing of spectrometric information, record of
radionuclides activity measurements results and database support of
measurements results, as well as control of all drives and automatic systems of WBC-K.
Principle
of operation of WBC-K is based on registration of gamma-radiation from
whole body or individual organs of a patient by corresponding detection
system. Determination
of nuclide content of incorporated radionuclides is performed with use
of semiconductor spectrometer of gamma-radiation energy according to
measured energies of full absorption peaks registered in instrumental
spectra. Measurement
of activity of gamma-emitting radionuclides is performed by direct
measurement of gamma-radiation of incorporated nuclides, and
strontium-90 - by measurement of bremstrahlung of incorporated Sr90-Y90. Calibration
of spectrometer for measuring activity of gamma-emitting radionuclides
and strontium-90 is made with use standard samples of activity of
incorporated radionuclides (phantoms).
